Hello everyone,
It is with a very deflated heart, that we let you know we lost our case.
We fought a hard battle, and we still believe that we would have won, if it hadn’t been for the city backing out at the last minute.
For those that are not aware, about a month before our hearing, Mayor Diodati, city councillors and the city legal representative, had a closed door meeting where a deal was made with the developer. The city abandoned us and pulled out of the OLT hearing.
We were made aware of this and a tough decision needed to be made. A decision to pull out as well, or continue? We had come this far, and fought so hard, we felt we could still win, so the decision was made to move forward.
We wanted to save our well established neighbourhood!
We gave it our all.
We are a great neighbourhood. I know of no other neighbourhood that can pull together like we did to fight.
You all deserve a pat on the back.
We will still be doing some fundraising, as there is still a $36,000.00 bill owing to the lawyer.
We are looking at doing a golf tournament, another bingo night and possibly another street party, as that was so much fun!
We encourage you to come out and participate, have fun with your neighbours and friends.
Should you have any questions, concerns or need more information, please do not hesitate to reach out.
We will be happy to talk to everyone.
Cheers
Angel, Cheryl and Helen
WE NEED YOUR HELP
The City of Niagara Falls councillors agreed unanimously that a 5 storey apartment building just “doesn’t fit” in our well established neighbourhood, at the council meeting July 11, 2023. Though we have won this battle, the war is not over yet! The developer has appealed to the Ontario Land Tribunal, in an attempt to over rule the city’s decision, as they did at the Diamond Jubilee site. Please help us, by donating, to retain a planner, traffic specialist & an environmental specialist to speak on our behalf at the OLT. There are 3 ways to donate; a Gofundme page ( Say No to a 5-storey Apartment Building Niagara Falls) has been set up, or cash or cheque can be directed to one of the 3 names above. As of August 2, 2024, we have donations of $8,725.00 in total, between cash, cheques and GofundMe. We still need financial help from neighbours and friends to support our cause. Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated! We ARE, stronger together!
We are not against development. We are supporting the right development in the right place. It just doesn’t fit!
BINGO Night! – Thank You!!
Our presence at the Delta Bingo and Gaming Hall on November 27th was another success. Ticket sales generated a profit of $1,200. Many thanks to those who came out and participated as well as those who purchased tickets.
PURSE BINGO – Thank You!!
Our latest event, held Oct. 19, was a huge success & tons of fun, for all who participated! One third of the crowd, went home happily, with some awesome prizes!
Brookfield Bash/Street Party – Thank you!!
Saturday August 17, we somehow dodged a rainy night and had a very upbeat, fun filled evening, with neighbours and friends ! The ‘Brookfield Boys band’ of 7 talented men ( 4 from ‘the hood’ ) provided us with amazing music for over 3 hours. Thanks to Sam Kitson for organizing that. Everyone enjoyed reconnecting with neighbours, meeting new ones, the food, games, raffles, and the lively atmosphere ! With such a unique neighbourhood, many people suggested this would be a great yearly event !!
Trivia Night! – Thank you!!
Our Trivia Night, Friday July 12, was a huge success, with over 100 participants, who had lots of fun & laughs ! We raised $5,000 to help with our cause. A table from Maple Leaf Collision took top prize ! We auctioned off pies donated by Betty’s Restaurant during the break, and they were a delicious treat for the tables who bid and won them. Special thanks to John Romano, our emcee, who provided all the challenging trivia questions & slides, choreographed to music !
